Fred and Mary were the very first to greet us personally when we began attending Grace services back in the 70s during our summers at Hamilton Lakes. They sought us out every time we were in church. At Mary's death, when we gave Fred our condolences, he said, "You know, life doesn't come with a blueprint. We take what we are given," and that has stuck with us as a perfect philosophy to live by. We continued to seek him out summer after summer, often having him join us for lunch after services at Bernie's Back Inn. In the last few years, when we'd ask how things were going, he'd say with a grin, "Well, I'm still here!" His smiles, his clever wit, his optimistic outlook, his openness with us 20 years younger than he, always left us wanting more. We came to love this guy as if he were our own parent, and will greatly miss but proudly remember him every time we walk into Grace church. In his honor we are making a gift to the sanctuary fund of $93.00, a dollar for each year of his special life!
