Phyllis M. Coleman (Hartman)
Phyllis M. Coleman, 96, of Florence, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015, at the Golden Living Center, Florence.
She was born June 13, 1919, in Burlington, Iowa, daughter of the late Oscar and Eva (Tiedman) Hartman.
Phillis grew up in Florence and graduated from Florence High School. She married Reuben Coleman in Iron Mountain, Mich. on January 27, 1940; he preceded her in death in 1988. Phyllis worked at Florence Public Schools as the secretary to the Superintendent. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Florence.
She enjoyed her beautiful flower garden and was well known in the area for the flowers that she grew. Phyllis had a book named after her called the “Hollyhock Lady”.
Phyllis is survived by one son, Raymond (Arline) Coleman, Florence; three grandchildren, Debra, Paul and Brian and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Reuben, she was preceded in death by one brother, Virden Hartman and one sister, Elaine Johnson.
In accordance with Phyllis’s wishes private family services were held.
