Obituary for Edward H. Heikkinen

Edward H.  Heikkinen
Edward H. Heikkinen, 87, of Crystal Falls, passed away, Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.

He was born July 10, 1927, in Askel, Mich., son of the late Edward and Hilda (Tepsa) Heikkinen.

Ed grew up in Painesdale, Mich. and later moved to Negaunee. He served in the United States Army from 1945, until he was honorably discharged in 1947. After serving in the Army, he went to work in the mines. Ed also worked as a logger and did construction. He married Edna Payne on January 9, 1954, in Negaunee, Mich. at St Paul Catholic Church. Ed retired in 1992, from the Miller Brewing Company after 18 years as a millwright, and relocated to Crystal Falls.

He was a family man that enjoyed sports, watching the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Red Wings and hunting, fishing and picking blueberries with his neighbor Marian Hawks. Ed was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Edna Heikkinen, Crystal Falls; four sons, Michael (Colleen) Heikkinen, Milwaukee, Wis., David (Donna) Heikkinen, Crystal Falls, Larry (Yvonne) Heikkinen, Waukesha, Wis. and Gary Heikkinen, Crystal Falls; one special adopted daughter, Corinne Wolak, Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Wesley (Gail) Heikkinen, Green River, Wyo; four grandchildren, Christopher, Traci (Michael) Cure, Julie and Amy Heikkinen; three step-grandchildren, Brian, Denell and Kati; five great-step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 9, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The East Side Veterans Council will do a Pass and Review, Sunday, 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Prayers will be recited Monday, November 10, 2014, 10:45 at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Fr. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.

The family has chosen the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home to honor Edward’s Legacy of Life.
