Obituary for Nancy S. Rahm (Shonyo)

Nancy S.  Rahm (Shonyo)
Iron Mountain-Nancy Shonyo Rahm of Spread Eagle, Wis., passed away on Monday, May 7th, 2018, in Iron Mountain, Mich. She was surrounded by her five children and husband of fifty-eight years.

Nancy was raised in Lyndonville, Vermont with her elder sister; Sybil and her parents Howard and Arlene Shonyo. She attended Lyndon Institute where she became an acclaimed athlete, setting school and state records in basketball. Nancy studied English Literature and Music at Skidmore College in New York where she was involved in the Glee Club and Athletics program. She earned her Bachelor's Degree before moving to Chicago, Illinois.

In Chicago, she met and married Robert Rahm. Together they moved to Spread Eagle where they raised their family. Nancy taught grade school in Vermont and was a licensed Real Estate broker in Dickinson and Florence Counties. She was an accomplished cellist and pianist. Nancy enjoyed painting, writing poetry, gardening, backgammon, and Cribbage. She was an avid reader, Scrabble and crossword-player. Her natural free spirit and powerful loving energy allowed her to build strong friendships throughout her life.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Bob Rahm; five children, Lars, Nils, Kristin, Robert, and Trina; thirteen grandchildren; and by her sister, Sybil Hazen.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018, from 3:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the First Covenant Church, Iron Mountain, Mich. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, at 3:30 p.m. at the church. Pastor Peter Erickson will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, Mich.
