Obituary for Donald L. Osterberg

Iron Mountain-Donald L. Osterberg, 89, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich.

He was born December 23, 1930, in Iron Mountain, Mich., son of the late, Lawrence and Virginia (Carpineti) Osterberg. Donald had been a long-time resident of Iron Mountain and attended Iron Mountain High School. Donald proudly served in the United States Navy from 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1967. He married Barbara White in 1963 and she preceded him in death in 1974. Donald then married Joan Weyenberg and she preceded him in death on February 16, 2012. He worked in Chicago where he ran a yacht back and forth for 8 years. After his first wife Barbara passed away in Chicago, Donald moved back to Iron Mountain. He then did carpentry work and small renovations.

Donald enjoyed carpentry, gardening, and especially the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, David Osterberg, Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter, Caroline (David) Sullivan, Iron Mountain, Mich.; five grandchildren, Sage, Tiara, Samantha, Arielle, and Virginia; and stepson, Steve Combs, Tampa, Florida.


In addition to his wives, Barbara and Joan, Donald was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Robert and Franklin Osterberg.

A visitation and celebration of life will take place at a later date. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, Mich.
