Obituary

Obituary for Clare M. Fontecchio (Richard)

Kingsford-Clare M. Fontecchio, age 100, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Monday, September 9, 2019, at Manorcare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Kingsford, Mich., where she was a resident for over four years.

She was born March 20, 1919 in Virginia, Minn., daughter of the late Albert and Yvonne (Beaulieu) Richard. Clare attended school in Kingsford. She met her future husband, John Fontecchio, at a dance. They were married November 27, 1935 during a home wedding. It was a double ceremony with her sister, Roberta (Leonard) Paquin. Clare was a bookkeeper for her husband who was a self-employed auto mechanic. Their home was located next to the garage which was most convenient. Most of their married life they worked together. They also ran an airport, Fontecchio’s Airport, in East Kingsford from 1960 to the 1990’s. John preceded Clare in death on January 21, 1990.

Clare enjoyed many hobbies including spending time in her large garden where she gardened into her 80’s, cooking, berry picking, making wine, but most of all she never missed a family function and will always be remembered for her smile.

Clare is survived by two sons, Wesley Fontecchio, Iron Mountain, Mich., and Don (Ann) Fontecchio, Fond du Lac, Wis.; one daughter, Jean (Mel) Kallenbach, Niagara, Wis.; twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, John, Clare was preceded in death by four sisters, Joy Hartmann, Irene Luba, Roberta Paquin and Rosemary Ormond.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 13, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited Friday, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 11:00 a.m., at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford. Rev. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.

A special thank you to Manorcare for their compassion and wonderful care during mom’s stay.

Gene Schiavo

To the family of Clare Fontecchio
My condolences to the family of Clare. I am Gene Schiavo and I got to know Clare at Manor Care. My wife Marge was in the room across from Clare. I visited the nursing twice a day for a year 1/2 and I saw Clare during every visit. She was such a sweet and kind lady. Each time my wife and I saw her, she would give us a huge smile. She had difficulty speaking, but smiled and waved her hand every time we saw her. Her family is in our thoughts at this time.

Jean and Family... We will miss Clare very much. We had a million laughs through the years and Clare made the best pasties on earth. You have our deepest sympathies and we will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers. We are so sorry, but we will not be able to attend the funeral due to a previous engagement out of town. We hope you understand and are sorry for that. Clare was a very special person and a part of our family and we loved her very much. Paul and Rachel Amicangelo
