Dorothy “Dottie” L. Christesen, 89, of Destin, Fla. passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015, at the Mattie Kelly Destin Healthcare Rehabilitation Center in Destin, following a long illness

She was born May 12, 1926 in Paris, Tex. daughter of the late William and Marie (Martin) Hadden.

Dottie grew up in Paris, Tex. and graduated from Paris High School. Following high school, Dottie worked at the Baker Shoe Store in Houston, Tex. She met her future husband, Russell Christesen, a former resident of Florence, Wis., while he was stationed at nearby Ellington Field in Texas, following his tour of duty overseas during World War II. They were married in Houston, on July 10, 1946, and then moved to Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. where Russell began his engineering career. During Russell’s career, job related moves found the family moving to several different states. Florida became their home after retirement.

She was a member of the Women’s Club in Destin and a volunteer at the Destin Community Center.

She is survived by her loving husband, of sixty-nine years, Russell; one son, Jim (Donna) Christesen, Destin; two grandsons, Ryne and Preston Christesen, both of Houston; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Gehlhoff, Florence and Carol (John) Meyer, Iron Mountain, Mich.; one niece, Jan Gehlhoff, Florence and one nephew Bob (Pattie) Gehlhoff, Florence.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Ode and Hazel Christesen; daughter, Linda Christesen; nephew, Donald Gehlhoff and brother-in-law, Robert Gehlhoff.

Friends are invited to attend the Graveside Service, which will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Florence. Rev. Doug Johnson will officiate.

The family has chosen the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence to honor Dottie’s Legacy of Life.
