Obituary for James R. "Jim" Carlson

James R. "Jim"  Carlson
Iron Mountain-James R. “Jim” Carlson, 48, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain.

He was born June 10, 1969, in Escanaba, Mich., son of John and Lynda (Skellenger) Carlson. Jim grew up and attended school in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School, Class of 1987. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1987 until his honorable discharge in 1990. When he returned from the service, Jim resided in Iron Mountain and worked for the Ford Garage, Kingsford, Mich., Northern R.V., Quinnesec, Mich., Four Seasons Club, Pembine, Wis. and in 2003 started working at WalMart, Iron Mountain.

Jim was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting and cooking.

He is survived by his mother, Lynda Donovan, Kingsford; his loving fiancé, Melissa Huotari, Iron Mountain, one son, Owen Carlson and one daughter, Sunshine Carlson; both of Iron Mountain; one brother, John Carlson, Quinnesec, Mich., one sister, Erin (Erik) Biggs, Dearborn, Mich., mother-in-law, Beverly (John) Phillips, Menominee, Mich., and by two sisters-in-law, Shannon Holmes and Amber (Jerry) Prahl, both of Menominee, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Carlson.

Private family visitation was held.
