Laurie C.  Walstrom (Klien)
Iron Mountain-Laurie C. Walstrom, 64, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford, Mich. with her loving family by her side.

She was born March 22, 1953, at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, Mich., daughter of the late Gustave and Alba ((Calvino) Klien. Laurie graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1971. She worked at Shopko, the VA, and Joann Fabrics. During this time, she was also working towards a teaching/English major at NMU. Laurie was united in marriage with David Walstrom on January 29, 1972. She and David ran Camelot Video Arcade for five years. Laurie was an accomplished seamstress. She was a member and organist and part of the choir at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She later owned and operated the Pawn Shop/Treasure Shop from 1988 until her illness in 2016.

Her hobbies included gardening, fishing, candle making, sewing, and painting. Laurie was an avid reader, a certified gemologist, and a jack-of-all-trades. Mostly she enjoyed cooking Friday night dinners for family and friends.

Survivors include her significant other, Debra Zigman, Iron Mountain, Mich.; the father of her children, David Walstrom, Iron Mountain; children, Jonelle (Gary) Sandel, Denver, Colo., Lee Anne (Jeff) Ryta, Marshfield, Wis., Jessica (Fiancé, Randy Neibauer) Bourgeois, Iron Mountain, Adrienne (Chad) Rostad, Iron Mountain, and became a “special” mother to Jeanine (Christian) Imes, Asheville, North Carolina and Corey Peerenboom, Beecher, Wis.; grandchildren, Sofia and Josie Sandel, Abbie and Jeffrey Ryta, Gavin Wright, Jada Bourgeois, Haley Bourgeois, Ellisa Cretton, Branen Rostad, and Ashton and Alec Imes; sister, Ann (Robert) Markell, Iron Mountain; cousins, Jeanne and Dave Williams, Palatine, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; and her special dog, Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a cousin, Alan Burkart, and special aunt and uncle, Idea and Bill Burkart. She was also preceded in death by aunt and uncle, Lee and Irene Anderson.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 2, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Prayers will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be established in Laurie’s name.
