Bernadine D. “Bernie” Walters, 61, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at ManorCare, Kingsford, Mich.

Bernie was born May 26, 1955 in Anchorage, Alaska, the daughter of Henry and Darceal (Tackes) Jordan. She grew up in West Bend, Wis. and then Slinger, Wis. On April 15, 2003 in Las Vegas, Nev., Bernie was united in marriage to Louis Walters. She devoted her life to her family; Louis and her two sons, Russell and Nigel. Together they lived in Jackson, Wis. and then moved to Kingsford, Mich.

Bernie had a quiet sense of humor and loved to do knitting, crocheting, camping, fishing and snowmobiling. She had a love for animals all her life.

Bernie is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, Louis; two sons, Russell and Nigel; her mom, Darceal (Tackes) Jordan, Kewaskum, Wis.; two sisters, Charlene (Mike) Westphal, West Bend, Wis., Arless Jordan; and one brother, Elwin (Annette) Jordan, Lomira, Wis.; three sisters-in-law, MaryAnn (John) Jarvi, Twin Lakes, Mich., Susan Gutkowski, Germantown, Wis. and Shirley (Tom) Kuehn, Mercer, Wis.; many aunts, in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Jordan, one brother, Dale Jordan; her mother-in-law, Angeline (Brazzoni) Zblewski, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, 1025 Carpenter Avenue, Iron Mountain, Mich. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate. Burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery.

Donations can be made to Northpointe BHS and please put “Lighthouse” in the memo section. The Lighthouse is a home that is Adult Foster Care Licensed for people with developmental disabilities and mental illness. This home is located in Kingsford, Mich. and is owned and operated by Northpointe Behavioral Healthcare. The home has five individuals living there and have a bed that is open for individuals meeting medical needs. They have many families utilizing this service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who helped care for Bernie. Words can never express how much we appreciate it.

Bernie wanted to personally thank her special angel, Andrea. With her help, she made it possible to worry less during this difficult time. Bernie said how lucky she was have her there when she needed her the most.
