Obituary for Marian J. "Kitty" Gammey

Marian J. “Kitty” Gammey, 79, of Iron Mountain, Mich., formerly of Florence, Wis., passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans Hospital, Iron Mountain.

She was born on April 6, 1937 in Florence, Wis., daughter of the late Joseph and Edith (Soderberg) Gammey. At a young age, Kitty resided in Florence and later moved to Iron Mountain where she graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1955. Kitty entered the United States Air Force and served our country honorably from 1955 until her discharge in 1958. She resided in Detroit, Dallas, Tex. and Des Plaines, Ill. Kitty moved to Florence in 1971 and helped her mom operate Lloyds Motel. She also worked for a cable distribution company for 8 years and later Telewire Supply Company for 6 years before retiring.

She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Florence. Kitty enjoyed picking berries, her schnauzer puppies and was known for having a great garden.

She is survived by one brother, William “Bill” (Barb) Gammey, Iron Mountain; two nieces, Susan (Dave) Rice, Aurora, Wis. and Jeanne Gammey, Green Bay, Wis.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Florence. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the church. Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in the spring.
