Obituary for Mark William Lies

Kingsford – Mark W. Lies, 63, of Kingsford, Mich. passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on August 21, 1953 in Chicago, Ill. son of Arthur & Marian (Morris) Lies, Jr. Mark grew up in Chicago and graduated from Taft High School in Chicago, class of 1971. He worked for Radio Shack as their computer manager in both Chicago and Milwaukee, Wis. Mark married Sharon (Petrovick) on May 5, 1984 in Milwaukee. In 1986, they relocated to Kingsford, where he worked at Soundnorth Audio Video store in Iron Mountain for many years before purchasing the business in 2010.

He was an active member of American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford and the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Bishop Baraga Knights of Columbus Council #1585. Mark served as a Boy Scout leader for over 20 years, where he thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent with the scouts and his leadership inspired many in our area, including his two sons who ranked Eagle and daughter who ranked Gold Award. Mark had many fond memories of growing up on the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes where he fished and spent time at the family cottage. He was a member of the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes Association and always enjoyed family campfires and cookouts with his kids, wife and extended family at South Lake.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sharon; two sons, Nicholas (Janna) Lies, Gwinn, Mich. and David Lies, Kingsford; one daughter Samantha Lies, Appleton; his parents Arthur (Marian) Lies, Kingsford; two brothers Arthur Lies, Spread Eagle and Scott Lies, Central Wisconsin; one sister Barbara (David) Braner, Orlando, Fla.; one granddaughter Eleanor and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held, Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited Wednesday, December 7, 2016 10:30am at the Jacobs Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 11:00am at American Martyrs Catholic Church Kingsford. Rev. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.

A memorial will be established in Mark’s memory.
