Obituary for Molly Altobelli (Calo)

Iron Mountain – Amalia “Molly” Altobelli, 95, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2016 at ManorCare Health Services, Kingsford, Mich.

She was born July 19, 1921 in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late Pietro and Graziella (Vitale) Calo. The family moved to Iron Mountain in 1925 where her father opened a tailor and furrier business.

Molly married Dan Altobelli on September 20, 1941 at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1996. She was a faithful member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain and the Daughters of Isabella.

Molly’s first job was working in her father’s tailor shop. Subsequently, she was employed at the Northside Sewing Factory and Big Boy Restaurant. Molly most enjoyed being a housewife, mother and assistant to her mother who prepared countless Italian meals for relatives and friends.

Throughout her life, her favorite pastime was dancing. She loved doing the “jitterbug” with her brothers and going to dances with friends. When ManorCare provided musical entertainment, Molly could still be seen dancing into her 90’s. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking and trips to the casino. She made a memorable trip to Italy with her mother, trips to California with her husband to visit their son, and many trips to Italian Fest in Milwaukee to see her daughter perform.

Molly is survived by one daughter Carmella Altobelli, Iron Mountain; one son Peter (Cecilia) Altobelli, Palmdale, Ca.; one brother John (Mary) Calo, Kingsford; special friend Josephine Syrjanen, Florence, Wis. and many loving nieces, nephews, friends and her favorite furry companion Mr. Jigs.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dan, Molly was preceded in death by three brothers Carlo, Mike and Henry and four sisters-in-law Kay, Marion, Monica and Dorothy.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 9:30am until 10:30am at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited Wednesday, 10:30am at the Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 11:00am at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Rev. Fr. Janusz Romanek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
