Obituary for Joseph S. Szczurek

Niagara – Joseph S. Szczurek, 86, of Niagara, Wis. passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at ManorCare Health Services, Kingsford with his daughter by his side.

He was born May 28, 1930 in Niagara, son of the late Stanley and Catherine (Nosal) Szczurek.

Joe grew up and graduated from Niagara High School class of 1948. He began working at the Niagara paper mill the very next day with the exception of two years which he spent serving our country in the U.S. Marines. Joe returned to Niagara to work at the mill for a total of 44 years before retiring. He married Rosalie Fontecchio and they spent 41 years together until Rosie passed in 1997.

Joe is survived by one daughter Kathy (Bob) Godin, York, Penn.; four grandchildren Jason (Megan) Godin, Chaska, Minn., Brittany Godin, Waldorf, Md., Mary Godin, York, Pa. and Hilary Godin, State College, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Abby and Bobby Godin, Chaska, Minn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister Mary Kositzke and one brother Teddy who passed as a child.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 10:30am until 11:30am at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post #136 of Niagara will accord military honors at 10:50am at the church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:30am at the church. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery, Niagara. Rev. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate.
