Obituary for Pastor Johannes S. Hering

Pastor Johannes S.  Hering
Pastor Johannes S. Hering, 87, of Florence, Wisc., passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Florence.

Pastor Johannes was born June 1, 1929 in Geruenhain Sachsen, Germany, son of the late Karl and Eleonore (Friedrich) Hering. He married Jacqueline Serocka in Indiana and she preceded him in death in 1972.

Pastor Johannes moved to the United States at a young age and attended the seminary in Dallas, Tex. where he became an ordained minister. He later moved out east to receive further schooling. Pastor Johannes served as Pastor in Bremen, Ill., Gary, Ind., served in a mission church at the Bylas Apache Indian Reservation, Ariz. and in 1972 became Pastor of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Florence, Wisc., and Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain, Mich. until retiring in 1991. Most recently he had been a member and assisted the pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tipler, Wisc.

Pastor Johannes studied Horticultural Therapy and was able to help many people with their ailments throughout the years. He also enjoyed rock collecting and will be missed by his parishioners and his family.

Pastor Johannes is survived by one son, Troye Hering, Commonwealth, Wisc.; one daughter, Marlayn (Brian Normand) Hering, Commonwealth; two brothers, Karl (Lottie) Hering, Colorado Springs, Col. And Ebby (Vicki) Hering, Council Bluffs, Iowa; one sister, Rosie (Alfred) Bartsch, Casa Grande, Ariz.; one granddaughter, Jacqueline Hering and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Jacqueline, Pastor Johannes was preceded in death by one brother, Christoph and two sisters, Christel and Maria.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will also be held Friday, October 21, 2016 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Florence. Funeral services will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at the church. Pastor Jason Liebenow will officiate. Burial will be in Commonwealth Cemetery, Commonwealth.

Memorials can be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Florence or St. Paul Lutheran Church, Tipler.
