Obituary for Ernest R. Shivy

Ernest R.  Shivy
Iron Mountain-Ernest R. Shivy, 92, of Iron Mountain, Mich., went to meet the Lord on Saturday, August 13, 2016. He went to meet his beloved wife of 66 years and his son, Dale and grandson.

Ernie loved to play baseball. In his younger years he played fast pitch softball for Iron Mountain-Kingsford Credit Union. He served in the Army during WWII. Ernie was stationed in the Philippines as a medic. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Medal. After the war, Ernie married Florence Carrie Pollock in 1947 and then went to work for the railroad. When Hanna Mining Company came to the area from Minnesota he went to work for them as a UKE driver, delivering iron ore to the crushers. After a number of years, he retired and he and his wife traveled throughout the southern and western parts of the United States. They spent many winters in Zapata, Texas and southern Arizona. His hobbies were fishing, baseball, gardening, rock collecting and going to the casino.

Ernie leaves behind two daughters, Patricia (David) Burchett and Joan Shivy Cerasoli; a son, Gary (Sally) Shivy; five grandchildren, Thad, Angie, Emily, Shawna and Racheal; nine great-grandchildren, Logan, Anna, Samantha, Marcus, Holden, Thatcher, Bela, Alyssa and Ruby; and by two great-great-grandchildren, Allison and Quinn Everleigh.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 pm.m at the Jacobs Funeral Home. Pastor James Danielson will officiate. Burial will take place at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
