Message: Grandpa, I’m sorry I could not be there, and I know a part of me will always be sorry…I wish I had been able to see you more, but life always threw a wrench into that wish. Regardless, you knew the most important thing- you knew that despite the distance, I loved you and missed you, and that you were on my mind. I remember a time when I was small enough to fit into your lap. I remember one day, when I did just that, and said your belly was like a pillow, and called you “pillow grandpa.” I loved you then because you were my grandpa, you gave big bear hugs, and had a striking resemblance to Santa Claus! But as I became older, my love and respect for you grew as I began to understand more about the person you were. Not only were you my grandpa, but you were also a husband, a father, a war veteran, and a good man. I am proud to be your granddaughter. I am proud of your service to our country, and I am proud of the kind of person you were. I can only hope that one day I can look back on my life, and know I’ve lived a good, full life as you have. You will always be my pillow grandpa. I love you forever. Sylvia
