Crystal Falls, Mich. – Troy G. Shumard, 89, of Crystal Falls, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016, at the Golden Living Center, Florence.

He was born May 13, 1926, in Bement, Ill. son of the late William and Carrie (Renfro) Shumard.

Troy grew up in Bement, Ill. and graduated from Bement High School, Class of 1943. He served his country in the United States Navy, serving with the 144th Naval Construction Battalion during WWII in Saipan, from August of 1944, until his honorable discharge in June of 1946. Troy married Pauline Ward on July 31, 1948, in Bement; she preceded him in death on May 20, 2015. He worked at Archer Daniels Midland in Decatur, Ill. as a Maintenance Superintendent for 47 years.

He enjoyed fishing with his brother-in-law, Gene Ward.

Troy is survived by one son, Rick (Linda) Shumard, Crystal Falls; two grandchildren, Scott and Aimee and one great-granddaughter, Laura.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Pauline, he was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.

In accordance with Troy’s wishes, Graveside Services will be held at a later date.

Memorials in his memory can be made to the Shriner’s Hospital.
