Obituary for Allan G. "Snooks" Wahoviak

Allan G. "Snooks"  Wahoviak
Iron Mountain –Allan “Al” “Snooks” G. Wahoviak, 74, of Iron Mountain, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016, at Aurora Bay Medical Center, Green Bay.

He was born April 18, 1941, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Robert and Marion (Swanson) Wahoviak.

Al was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1960, and played four years of Varsity football and was on the basketball team. Al served in the United States Navy and after being honorably discharged returned to Iron Mountain. He married Joyce Edwards in July of 1962. Al owned and operated several businesses in Iron Mountain including a sign company, Irish’s Bar and the Lake Antoine Motel. He served as past member and officer of the Uren-Cooper Johnson Post No. 50 of the Iron Mountain American Legion.

He enjoyed cutting wood, fishing, golfing, wintering in Florida with his wife, attending the Iron Mountain football games where he last watched his grandson Jonathon, play Norway; he was a fan of any team that played the Green Bay Packers as he liked to see them lose. Al was a fan of the Waucedah Wood Ticks and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren; he was a tireless worker.

Al is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce; one daughter, Jean (Joe) Paquin, Kingsford; one son, Jon (Kelly) Wahoviak, Iron Mountain; one brother, Robert (Mary Ann) Wahoviak, Iron Mountain; four grandchildren, Allan, Kelly, Jonathon and Joey; many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and cousins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a special nephew, Jeff Youren in 2008.

Graveside Services will be held Friday, May 13, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain. Rev. James Danielson will officiate. The Iron-Mountain Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post No. 50 will accord Military Honors at Graveside.

The family would like to thank the Oscar G. Johnson Veteran’s Hospital in Iron Mountain along with his favorite nurse, Kathy Wahoviak and the Aurora Bay Care Clinic, Green Bay, especially the intensive care unit and the staff for their exceptional care.

A memorial will be established in Al’s memory.
