Obituary for Emil M. Kenney

Emil M.  Kenney
Emil M. Kenney, 93, of Amasa, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls

He was born January 22, 1922, in Amasa, son of the late Marino and Josephine (LeBardi) Kenney.

Emil grew up in Amasa and graduated from Amasa High School. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, from January 19, 1943 until his honorable discharge on January 18, 1946. Emil married Hulda Ahonen on May 13, 1950, in Chicago, Ill; she preceded him in death on April 3, 2009. He worked for Bell & Howell as a machine operator in Chicago, Ill. for many years, retiring in 1993, at which time they moved back to Amasa.

He was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church and the Eastside Veterans Council. Emil enjoyed golfing, fishing and taking rides to the casino.

Emil is survived by one son, Chester Kenney, Harvard, Ill. many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Hulda, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Jerry, David “Butch” and Leo Kenney; two sisters, Francis Jacobinski and Annette Danielson,
five brothers-in-law, Toivo, Arvid and Leo Ahonen, Paul Jacobinski and Lawrence Danielson and two sisters-in-law, Ann Maki and Jacquelyn Kenney.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 22, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The Eastside Veterans Council, VFW Post 2891 and American Legion Post No. 87 of Crystal Falls will offer a Pass and Review, Friday, 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Prayers will be recited, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Fr. Jose Maramattam will officiate. Burial will be in Hematite Township Cemetery, Amasa, Mich. in the spring.
