Obituary for Sophie T. Jacobsen (Kososki)

Sophie T. Jacobsen (Kososki)
Sophie T. Jacobsen, 99, of Fern, Wis. passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015, peacefully at her son’s home in Orangeville, Pennsylvania where she had resided for the past 10 years.

She was born January 1, 1916, in Niagara, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Sylvester and Margaret (Bal) Kososki.

Sophie graduated from Niagara High School, Class of 1934. She married Vern Jacobsen on May 27, 1939, in Bound Brook, NJ. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2003. They lived in New Jersey for forty years before moving back to Fern in 1979. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Florence and the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Masonic Lodge No. 231 Order of the Eastern Star.

About a year after her husband’s death, Sophie moved to Orangeville, PA to live with her son, Ted and his wife, Nancy at their Christmas tree farm. Sophie always enjoyed the activities at the farm. For many years she knitted mittens and scarves which she sold on her “mitten tree”. The proceeds were then donated to St. Vincent DePaul of Wisconsin. Sophie loved life and enjoyed everything from sunsets, birds, flowers and people.

She is survived by her only son, Theodore “Ted” (Nancy) Jacobsen, Orangeville; one sister, Cecelia DePas Green, Ark.; four grandchildren, Deborah (Jeffrey) Stackpole; Jeffrey (Melissa) Jacobsen; Adam (partner Laurie) Burke and Tiffany (Keith) Smith; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Vern, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, Paul, John and Joseph Kososki and four sisters, Mary Mainville, Bernice Visintainer, Stella Bolek and Helen Darne.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Florence.
