Obituary for Geneva E. Mongrain (Barcome)

Geneva E.  Mongrain (Barcome)
Geneva E. Mongrain, 97, of Iron Mountain passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain.

She was born March 16, 1918, in Hardwood, Mich. daughter of the late Richard and Eva (Robinette) Barcome.

Geneva grew up in Hardwood and graduated from Felch High School, Class of 1938. She married Leonce Mongrain on December 8, 1942, in Detroit, Mich. He preceded her in death in 1981. They resided in Livonia, Mich. for 23 years. She worked as a Tool and Dye Maker during WWII. Geneva and Leonce moved to Iron Mountain in 1976. She babysat for many families in the area. Geneva was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She enjoyed cooking, housecleaning and especially the time she spent with her friends and family.

Geneva is survived by two sons, Leonce “Butch” (Betty) Mongrain, Iron Mountain and Donald (Joyce) Mongrain, Romulus, Mich.; one daughter, Linda (Norman Bloomquist) Pacione, Iron Mountain; one brother, Basil Barcome, Bark River, Mich.; three sisters, Patricia Dixon, Iron Mountain, Margaret (Edward) Schwartz, Lapeer, Mich. and Janet (Albert) Ambrosia, Iron Mountain; four grandchildren, Wendy (Rick) Shorr, Connie Steffes, Donald Mongrain and Elizabeth Mongrain; five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Austin, Nicole, Emma and Aubrey and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Leonce, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona St. Vincent and Elaine McCabe.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited Thursday, October 29, 2015, 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Rev. Fr. Ray Valerio will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.

The family has chosen the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, to honor Geneva’s legacy of life.
