Obituary for Elynor B. Janchenko (Wiolenty)

Elynor B. Janchenko (Wiolenty)
Elynor B. Janchenko, 90, of Crystal Falls, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015, at the Golden Living Center, Florence, Wis.

She was born January 14, 1925, in Chicago, Ill. daughter of the late William and Marion (Kasuba) Wiolenty.

Elynor graduated from Tully High School in Chicago. She married Mitchell Janchenko on December 26, 1943, they resided in Norfolk, Va.; he preceded her in death on December 24, 2007. Elynor worked as a legal secretary, while her husband served in the United States Navy, in the Pacific Theatre, during WWII. Upon her husband’s honorable discharge, they relocated to Summit, Ill. and established Jan’s Inc., an industrial scrap iron and steel processing company. Elynor worked as the office manager until the sale of the company. She was co-chair of the Argo Summit Chamber of Commerce special events committee, a certified swim instructor for the cub scouts, and a twenty five plus year volunteer for the American Red Cross. In 1975, she saw the completion of their north woods retirement home, which Elynor designed. Elynor enjoyed her home, particularly the wildlife and was thrilled to see moose in her backyard.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Janchenko, Crystal Falls; one sister, Lillian (the late Sol) Mastro, Lombard, Ill; one sister-in-law, Mary Jo (the late John) Janchenko, Summit, Ill. and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mitchell, she was preceded in death by one infant son, Mitchell Janchenko, Jr.

Elynor had an open heart, generous spirit and enjoyed a lively conversation. No one left her home without being offered “a little knosh.”

In accordance with Elynor’s wishes, private family services will be held at a later date.

The family has chosen the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls to honor Elynor’s Legacy of Life.
