Obituary for Daniel P. "Warhoop" Engman

Daniel P. "Warhoop"  Engman
Daniel P. “Warhoop” Engman, 54, of Kingsford, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014, at his home.

He was born August 20, 1960, in Newberry, Mich., son of John and Stella Engman.

Dan grew up in Newberry and he was one hundred percent Native American from the Chippewa Tribe. He served in the United States Army and after being honorably discharged attended the University of Wisconsin for welding and fabricating. He relocated to Newberry, where he worked for Louisiana Pacific. He later went on to run the family business, Engman’s House Moving, moving many houses in the area. He married Chandra Gerding on November 2, 2012, in Iron Mountain and they resided in Kingsford.

He enjoyed many hobbies, including, hunting, fishing, building motors, attending yard sales, welding and playing bingo. Dan was a problem solver, a positive person and was always making people laugh. He could give a joke and was also able to take one. Dan was a kind, caring, compassionate man. Dan would help anyone in need.

Dan is survived by his mother, Stella Engman, Kingsford; his wife, Chandra, Kingsford; one daughter, Jennifer Engman, Texas; three brothers, Jim Engman and Dennis Engman, both of Newberry and Russell (Linda) Engman, Okl.; three sisters, Elaine (Robert) Thomas, Kingsford, Mary (George) Yannott, Peshawbestown, Mich. and Violet Roxbury, Grand Rapids, Mich., four grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and relatives in Canada.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Engman, Sr.; five brothers, John Engman, Jr, Frank Chippewa, John Chippewa, Tim Chippewa and Donny Chippewa; three sisters, Nancy Smith, Gail Rolstone and Annette Dedric.

A Celebration of Dan’s life will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle’s Club, Newberry.

The family has chosen the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain to honor Daniel’s Legacy of Life.
