Lois J. Senger (Gunville)
Lois Jean Senger, 84, of Iron Mountain, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014, at her home with her loving family at her side.

She was born October 5, 1930, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late John and Laura (Drake) Gunville.

Lois grew up in Kingsford, Mich. and graduated from Kingsford High School, Class of 1948. She went on to attend Northwestern University School of Nursing in Evanston, Ill. where she received her degree in nursing. Lois married the love of her life, Frank Senger on July 23, 1952.

She worked at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital from 1952, until retirement in 1989, as Director of Nursing. Lois served as union president, was a member of the Michigan Nurses Association and served on the Red Cross Board of Directors. She enjoyed spending winters in Clearwater, Fla. where she and Frank made many close friends. Lois made the holidays festive for her family and she had a special gift for decorating the family home, making everyone’s favorite treats and hosting memorable gatherings. Christmas was a special time for her and her immeasurable capacity to love was only exceeded by her big-hearted generosity. She also enjoyed bowling, knitting, playing bridge and occasional excursions to the casinos. Summers were a special time as Lois and her family enjoyed many hours in the family pool and gathering around the family barbeque. Her family attended St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain.

Lois is survived by her high school sweetheart, husband Frank; two sons, Randy Senger, Portage, Mich. and David Senger, Iron Mountain; one daughter, Shelley (George) Groeneveld, Kingsford; one brother, Larry Gunville, Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Monica (Robert) Neldberg, Marquette, Mich. Lois celebrated life with her eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She made a special place in her life for numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Keith Gunville; one sister, Mary Joan Horenstein and her nephew, Jeff Gunville.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2014, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Rev. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate.
