Gary “Geetle” Stolberg, 70, of Crystal Falls, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Northstar Health Services, Iron River, Mich.

Gary graduated from Stambaugh High School, Class of 1961. He married Elaine Franti and she preceded him in death in 1986. Gary was a lifelong resident of the area and retired from the West Iron County School System. He was known by many as “The Man with the Magic Knife”, due to his great skills as a butcher. From the age of five, Gary had a passion for the outdoors, and spent all the time he could there. He never missed a deer season opener, from the age of 14, and never went a year without shooting a deer. Gary’s passion for the outdoors was passed on to his four sons.

He is survived by four sons, Guy (Vicky) Stolberg, Iron River, Dean (Kelly) Stolberg, Iron River, Bill Stolberg, Grand Rapids, Mich. and Russ (Lauren) Stolberg, Charlotte, Mich.; one brother, William Stolberg, Ypsilanti, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Brandon Stolberg, brother Lance, Ben Stolberg, Alex Stolberg, Ruby Stolberg, Elena Stolberg and Andrew Stolberg.

In accordance with Gary’s wishes private family services were held.

In Gary’s memory, please tip a glass to the heavens for a man whose perseverance and unfaltering determination to beat cancer and live life, never wavered.
