Barbara Sue Younk, 46, of Vulcan passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain.
She was born April 11, 1965 in Norway, daughter of Charla (Gauthier) Younk and the late Darrel Younk Sr. Barbi was a caretaker by profession, but her compassion shone in every relationship she cultivated. She was a mother-figure to countless individuals even before she gave birth to her two greatest accomplishments, Heidi and Matthew.
In the eyes of Barbi’s children, mother, late father, siblings, nieces, nephews, and wide array of loved ones, she was an endearing individual who will not soon be forgotten. In sickness, she found humor. In family, she found light. The example by which she led has turned out to be a great solace in the wake of what has proven to be one of the most tremendous losses many of us have ever felt.
She is survived by her mother, Charla Younk of Norway; daughter, Heidi Hansen of Iron Mountain; son Matthew Hansen of Sault Ste. Marie; brothers Darrel Younk Jr. of Vulcan, Edward (Yun) Younk of Rochester, Minn., Samuel Younk of Wausau, Wis., and Patrick (Mary) Younk of Los Alamos, N.M.; sisters Jeanie (Todd) Johnson of Vulcan, Karen (Alvin) Kallenbach of Kingsford, and Mary (Don) Harvey of Barlington, Wis.; and special friend Tony Lombardini of Vulcan.
A private memorial service will be held at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Rev. Tim Ekaitis will officiate.
