CRYSTAL FALLS — William L. Veeser, 75, of Crystal Falls died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at ManorCare Health Services in Iron Mountain.
William was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Alpha, son of the late William H. Veeser and Mary J. (Moore) Veeser.
He received his bachelor of science degree in forestry from Michigan Technological University in 1949 and joined UPPCO in April of that year as assistant forester. He served the company as manager of the land department, assistant to the president, general sales manager, vice president-sales, and vice president-administrations before being elected to the position of senior vice president-public and corporate relations.
Mr. Veeser has been active in professional and civic organizations. A registered forester, he served on the board of several organizations: Keweenaw Industrial Council, Suomi College and the Michigan Utilities Association. He was past chairman and director of the Michigan State Chamber of Commerce, board member and past chairman of Operation Action U.P.; director of Upper Peninsula Generating Company, and president of Trees for Tomorrow Natural Resources Education Center.
His many civic endeavors include memberships in the League of Women Voters of the Copper Country-finance committee; Citizens for Michigan Tech; MTU Center for Intensive Forestry-Industrial Advisory Board; MTU Institute of Wood Research-Advisory Committee; Society of American Foresters; Boy Scouts of America Hiawathaland Council-Advisory Board; and Upper Peninsula Utilities Group.
His career has earned him the Public Service Medallion from Northern Michigan University, the Silver Medal from Michigan Technological University and the State Merit Award from Michigan Soil Conservation Districts.
William is survived by his three children, Elizabeth (Tim) Purcell of Duluth, Minn.; William Veeser Jr. and David Veeser, both of Minneapolis, Minn., two brothers, Don (Pauline) of Rapid River and Neil Veeser of Caspian.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Veeser of Lake Ellen, Channing.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the church. Fr. Ray Zeugner will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls.
The family is being served by the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home of Crystal Falls.
