William Arnold Schartner, 74, of Felch, Mich., passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services, Kingsford, Mich.
Bill was born September 23, 1932, in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., son of the late Louis and Laura (Haberli) Schartner. He grew up and attended school in Sturgeon Bay. Bill married Violet Froehlich in 1952.
He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1954, when he was honorably discharged. Bill returned to Sturgeon Bay in 1954, and worked in the shipyard there for over 16 years. His main occupation was dairy farmer and cherry grower. Bill remained in the Sturgeon Bay area until moving to Felch in 1999, when he retired.
Bill enjoyed many hobbies including, hunting, fishing, and especially enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Felch Rangers.
He is survived by four sons, Steven (Jean) Schartner, Milton, Fla., Dale (Christine) Schartner and William Jr. (Penny) Schartner, both of Sturgeon Bay, Charles (Larisa) Schartner, Connelly Springs, N.C.; two daughters, Sharon Ruckman, Marion, N.C., Marcia (Rev. Kyle) Stephens, Oak Grove, Minn.; three brothers, Donald (Shirley), Robert, and Arnold Schartner, all of Sturgeon Bay; five sisters, Doris Schartner, Mary (Bill) Junion, Helen Henschel, and Ann (Al) Tanck, all of Sturgeon Bay, Carol Grandbouche, Hurricane, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth and Joanne Schartner, both of Sturgeon Bay; sixteen grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one son, Paul Schartner on April 16, 2007; two brothers, Louie and Leonard Schartner.
Visitation will be Monday, May 7, 2007, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Forbes Funeral Home, Sturgeon Bay. A memorial service will be held 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Rev. Kyle Stephens will officiate.
