Obituary

William "Bill" F. Parker, 84, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, October 09, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Florence. He was born, June 27, 1929, in Popple River, Wis., son of the late Neuman and Pearl (Winkworth) Parker. Bill grew up in Tipler and Florence and attended Florence School. He served in the U.S. Air Force for three years before being honorably discharged. Bill moved back to Florence and on July 21, 1951, he married Marilyn Hillburg at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Florence. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. While living in Florence, Bill worked for many of the area mines, including the Tobin and Randville. He moved to Nevada where he worked in the mine for two years before moving back to Florence. Bill also worked for Goodman Industries and the J.C. Penney Company. He was a life member of the American Legion Post No. 211 and the VFW Post No. 3635, both of Florence. Bill enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, working with leather and was best known for the building of wooden cars, trucks and other automotive vehicles that he called his executive toys. He has many model cars displayed in the WWII Glider Museum, Iron Mountain. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marilyn; three daughters, Karlyn (Randy) Osterberg, Aurora, Wis., Renee (James) Kanyuh, Vulcan, Mich., Leanne (Claude) Wilcox, Florence; one brother, Jim Parker, Sheboygan, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Andrew (Jessica), Karl (Tina), Jeffrey (Melinda), Jason (Andrea), Shawn, Sherry (Gary) and Kristina; five great-grandchildren, Jack, Paige, Alexis, Brooklyn and Tyler; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his step-mother, Eloise Bloom; three brothers, Douglas, Melvin and Marvin; one sister, Maxine Hoya. Visitation will be Saturday, October 12, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Florence. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Robin Zeratsky will officiate. Burial will be in Commonwealth Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wis. The American Legion Post No. 211 and the VFW Post No. 3635 of Florence will accord military honors at Graveside.
