William Merle Paiter, 81, Crystal Falls, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River.
He was born August 27, 1926, in Palmer, Mich., son of the late Frederick and Hazel (Barber) Paiter. He married the former Margaret Lohrey. She preceded him in death in 1987.
Bill was a former Stambaugh police officer, retiring after serving the community for 26 years. He enjoyed golf, archery, was an avid outdoorsman having guided fishermen and hunters for many years. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy and was a life-member of the Tufts-Rondon Post No. 2891, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Crystal Falls and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Survivors include, one son, William (Darla) Paiter, Jefferson, Ga.; two daughters, Debby (David) Bellmore, Sherwood, Wis., Susan (David) Stevens, Land-O-Lakes, Wis.; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and his long-time companion and caregiver, Jean Alanen, Crystal Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret Paiter, two brothers, John and Roy Paiter, four sisters, Alma Johns, Leola Lappala, Vera Tarzwell, Beulah Roberts; and a great-grandson, Ethan DeGroot.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2007, at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. A gathering will follow at the Westwood II, Crystal Falls. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
