Obituary

William L. Bourg, 79, of Vulcan, Mich., passed away Monday, March 29, 2010, following a four year courageous battle with cancer at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain. He was born August 10, 1930, in Norway, Mich., son of the late Louis and Hannabeth (McGinnes) Bourg. William attended Vulcan School and graduated from St. Benedicts Catholic School in Detroit, Class of 1948. He served in the United States Air Force from 1949 until 1952, in Korea. William married the former Catherine Bray on June 23, 1956, at St. Barbara Catholic Church, Vulcan. He worked in the woods for several years and then at Grede Foundry from 1963 to 1986. William owned and operated the Bourg's River Road Bar for 24 years before retiring. He enjoyed delivering the Daily News up until his passing. William also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, wood working, and his many trips to Las Vegas and the casinos. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. William was a member of the VFW Post No. 4581, Norway, and played men's slow pitch for several years. William is survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine Bourg; their children, Laurie (Sam) Bray, Bernie Bourg, both of Waucedah, Louis Bourg, Vulcan; eight grandchildren, Terri (Bray) Schultz, Norway, Travis Bray, Detroit, Leann Bray, Waucedah, Amie (Tomasoski) Kolf, Slinger, Wis., Corrie (Tomasoski) (Jeff) Maule, Norway, Summer Bourg, Norway, William Bourg II, Norway, Joey Bourg, Norway; four great-grandchildren, William Burklund, Stevie Schultz, Olivia Maule, Zetta Kolf; a special aunt, Letty Bourg; a special cousin, Sister Sarah Smedman; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sherry; mother and father-in-law, Frank "Honey" and Josephine Bray; and a special brother-in-law, Benny Bray. William's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. John Groeneveld and nurses Amy and Theresa for all of their care and help.
