William Ahola, 89, Crystal Falls, died Saturday, November 3, 2007, at Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River.
He was born June 4, 1918, in St. Paul, Minn., son of the late Oscar and Theresa (Berg) Ahola. On February 21, 1946, in Crystal Falls, he married Lillian Johnson. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2007.
Bill graduated from Crystal Falls High School, Class of 1937 and attended Albion College. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Louis Bowman Post No. 87, Crystal Falls. He enjoyed music, played the trumpet, was a member of the Lion's Band and the Legionnaire Drum & Bugle Corps. Bill was a retired switchman for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.
Survivors include, one daughter, Susan (Frank) Foley, Dallas, Ga., two sons, Robert (Louise) Ahola and John (Pat) Ahola, Crystal Falls; six grandchildren, Brian Ahola, Mark (Robin) Ahola, Tim Lampi, Amanda Lampi, Teresa (Nathaniel) Kudwa, Adam (Becky) Ahola, two great-grandchildren, Aubrianna Ahola, Lauren Kudwa; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lillian Ahola, and one sister, Irene Soha.
Visitation will be 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at United Lutheran Church, Crystal Falls. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. The East Side Veterans will have a Pass In Review Ceremony 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
