Kingsford:
Wayne Oliver Virta, age 79, of Kingsford, formerly of Bergland, passed away Tuesday, May 03, 2005, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
He was born July 2, 1925, in Watton, Michigan, the son of Sulo and Impi (Sikkila) Virta. Wayne grew up in Watton, and graduated from L'Anse High School. He joined the U. S. Army from 1944-1946 during World War II. He married Elsie Seppi July 5, 1952, in Ishpeming. She preceded him in death July 1, 2001. He trained as an electrician by a correspondence course, then worked as an electrician in the mines in Ishpeming and White Pine, retiring1982. He was a member of the American Legion in Bergland, MI. His hobby was wood working.
Survivors include two sons Richard (Marilyn) Virta of Quinnesec, and Raymond (Tina) Virta of Astoria, New York, one daughter Sandra (Bert) Beals of Ironwood, Michigan, one brother William (Norma) Virta of Trout Creek, one sister Helen (Francis) Youngren of Covington, one sister in law Lila Virta of West Allis, Wisconsin and five grandchildren Diana Virta, Karen Virta, Olivia Virta, Bert Beals and Adam Beals.
Besides his parents and wife Elsie, Wayne was preceded in death by a sister Elsie Maki and one brother Roy.
Visitation will be Friday, May 6, from 5:30-6:30p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30p.m.at the Jacobs Funeral Home. Fr. Mark McQuesten will officiate. Burial will be in Covington Cemetery.
