Crystal Falls-Walter E. Tuchowski, age 90, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at his home.
He was born February 20, 1929, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Gregory and Mary (Mazurek) Tuchowski. Walter had been a lifelong resident of Crystal Falls and graduated from Crystal Falls High School, class of 1947. He married June Ann Stebic in July of 1960 in New Jersey. Following marriage, they resided in Crystal Falls and owned and operated Two House Keys Resort since 1962 where they made and spent time with numerous lifelong friends every season. June preceded him in death on September 28, 2009. Walter had also worked at Groveland Mine until it closed and as a maintenance engineer at First National Bank of Crystal Falls for 10 years.
He enjoyed hunting, spear fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include one son, Mel (Michelle) Tuchowski, Kingsford, Mich.; two daughters, Fortune Tuchowski and Charlene Curtis, both of Crystal Falls, Mich.; five grandchildren, Alina Soha, Justin (Heidi) Curtis, Nicholas (Jen) Curtis, and Brendan (Caroline) and Alec Tuchowski; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, Walter was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Frank and Chester Tuchowski; four sisters, Angie Shimalius, Rosie Tuchowski, Lorraine Rojek and Irene Battye; and one son-in-law, Bill Curtis.
In accordance with Walter's wishes, a graveside service will be held at a later date in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
A scholarship will be established with The Forest Park Education Foundation, for those going into the trade school, in Walter and June Tuchowksi's memory. Donations may be mailed to 801 Forest Parkway, Crystal Falls, Mich. 49920.
