Walter "Siodlak" Shedlak, 81, Florence, died Saturday February 16, 2008, at home. He was born September 18, 1926, in Portage, Penn., son of the late John and Ann (Sorvinsky) Shedlak. At age two, Walter traveled to Poland with his family, where he was raised. He married the former Stefanie Rokicki in 1956, in Poland. At the age of 37, Walter moved back to America with his family. He worked as a chef at the Edgewater Country Club and later for Florsheim Shoe Factory in Chicago, until 1975, at which time he bought the Laramie Lounge which he owned and operated until he moved to Florence in 1979. Walter owned and operated Wally's bar in Florence from 1979, until he retired in 2007. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. Walter enjoyed many hobbies including, playing cards, playing pool, making sausage, and gardening. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and the numerous friends he leaves behind. He truly enjoyed being around people and gatherings. Walter is survived by two sons, Stanley Shedlak, Chicago, Wally Shedlack, Jr., Florence; one daughter, Jean (Jeff) Gribble, Florence; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Jesse, Stephanie, Sarah, Jean, Amelia, Savannah; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Stefanie, Walter was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Vincent, Joe, Eddie, and Frank; six sisters, Helen, Josephine, Ann, Wladja, Nely, and Mary. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 20, 2008, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. Prayers will be offered by Sr. Marla Clercx Wednesday 7:45 PM, at the funeral home and also Thursday 10:30 AM, at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, February 21, 2008, 11:00 AM, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wis., in the spring.
