Obituary

Amasa- Walter R. Roe, 90, of Hematite Township, Mich., passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at his home. He was born July 24, 1930, in Iron River, Mich., son of the late Water and Josephine (Turoski) Roe. Walter grew up in Iron River and was a graduate of Iron River High School, class of 1948. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. Walter married June Parkin in 1952. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2011. Walter worked as a maintenance foreman for Hanna Mines. He helped open mines in both Turkey and Missouri. Walter enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers playing with his grand dog Pumpernickel, fishing and golfing, bird watching, and feeding the chipmunks and squirrels. Survivors include one son, Walter Joe Roe, Minnesota; one daughter Kelly (Jerry) Mullinax, Amasa, Mich.; one grandson, Loren Roe, Minnesota; four great-grandchildren, London Roe, Austin Roe, Chase Roe, and Joshua Aikey; one sister, Mae Sloat; one brother-in-law, Bruno Ghiotto; dear friend, Adaline Chervo; three nieces, Mandy (Todd) Lindahl, Jenny (Heath) Tullier, and Deanna Hurley; and five nephews, Adrian Roe, Kenny Sloat, Doug Sloat, Richard Sloat, and David Roe. In addition to his parents and wife, June, Walter was preceded in death by one daughter, Lori; one sister, Ann Marie Ghiotto; and a brother, Norman Roe.
