Vivian K. Hassell, 82, of Spread Eagle, Wis., passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain. She was born September 10, 1927, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late John and Elsie (Nelson) Barkle. Vivian graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1946. She attended Dundens Business School, Iron Mountain, where she graduated with an Associate Degree. Vivian worked at Nelson Paint Company and the Iron Mountain Telephone Company (Bell Telephone). She married Howard Hassell in September of 1953 at First Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1999. Vivian was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Chippewa Club, the Pine Grove Country Club, the Spread Eagle Garden Club and Green Bay Garden Club. She was also a member of the P.E.O. where she held office as President in the Iron Mountain and Green Bay Chapters, and the Kiwanis Ski Club as a jumping organizer during the 1940's and 1950's. She enjoyed cooking, baking, downhill skiing, golfing, flower gardening, and especially collecting antiques. Vivian is survived by three sons, Charles (Bonnie) Hassell, Kingsford, Nelson (Jenny) Hassell, Spread Eagle, Rehn (Lisa) Hassell, Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Gloria (Cliff) Hall, New Holstein, Wis.; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Adam, Shelby, and Emily; one sister-in-law, Joyce Hassell, Iron Mountain; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Rogers and Wallace Barkle.
