Virginia Spigarelli, age 86, beloved wife of Domenic and mother of Christine, passed away Friday, November 24, 2006, at ManorCare Health Services after a brief illness. Virginia Mae Ready was born November 8, 1920, in Byron, Minnesota. She lived there with her parents, Anna Louise (Staples) and Charles Earl Ready. Virginia graduated in 1938 from Kasson High School where she excelled in studies, was involved in sports and school activities and had many fun-loving close friends. Virginia loved to ski, skate, snowshoe, swim, and dance. After graduation, she moved to Niagara, Wisconsin where she lived with her sister, Dorothy (Ed) Buehler, Sr. and their family, Ed Jr. (Buster), Charlotte, and Nancy Jo. While residing in Niagara, Virginia worked as a cashier at Cashway and spent several years working in the lab at Kimberly Clark Paper Mill, where many knew her as a "social butterfly" who always had a joke to tell to make people laugh. In 1944, she met Domenic at the Niagara ice skating rink. They dated until Domenic went into the Army. During his service, they wrote each other daily. When he returned to Iron Mountain, "Virg" and "Moose" were married on January 12, 1946. They had their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006. They were blessed with one child, a daughter, Christine. Virginia was active in St. Mary & St. Joseph Church as a Religious Education teacher and lunch committee volunteer. She was a Red Cross swimming instructor and a Girl Scout leader. She worked at General Controls. As a mother, "Mrs. Spig" was always active with and supportive of Christine and her friends. Virginia enjoyed retirement year winters in Bradenton, Florida with Domenic and their friends and family there. She was an avid reader. Virginia loved to be with her family and two special friends, Alyce Fornetti, and the late Dorothy (Dot) McMahon. She also liked to visit her daughter in places like Grand Cayman Island, San Diego, California, and the Paint River in Crystal Falls. Virginia Mae is survived by her husband, Domenic, and daughter, Christine and her husband, Robert Armstrong of the Republic of Panama. She'll also be deeply missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and twelve siblings, sisters: Ethel, Jenny, Dorothy, and Nettie, and brothers: Joe, Harold, George, Haven, Paul, Lloyd, Ernest, and her little brother Lyle. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00pm, Friday, December 1, 2006, at St. Mary and St. Joseph church. A memorial mass will follow at 7:00pm. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
