Vieno A. Johnson, 84, of Iron Mountain, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain. She was born October 18, 1924, in Beechwood, Mich., daughter of the late John and Wilhelmina (Blink) Lassi. Vieno grew up in Beechwood and attended school there. She married Earl Johnson of Iron River. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1969. Vieno and Earl owned and operated Westside Convalescent Home in Iron River from 1960 until 1970, when she retired. She was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Kingsford. Vieno's most treasured times were spent with her family and her extended family at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time outdoors. She is survived by one daughter, Pat (Donald) Arrowood, Iron Mountain; one step-son, Glen Johnson, Marina, Calif.; one sister, Marie (Miklos) LaBay, Iron Mountain; two grandchildren, Alina, Donald Earl; three step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Vieno was preceded in death by one daughter, Gloria Oliver; three brothers; and four sisters.
