Obituary

Victoria I. Carlson, 91, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Hyland Nursing Home, Iron Mountain. She was born on April 20, 1920, in Felch, Mich., daughter of the late Werner and Elida (Anderson) Carlson. Victoria grew up in Felch and graduated from Felch High School, Class of 1939. She married Harold Carlson in June of 1939 in Metropolitan. He preceded her in death in 1978.They resided in Iron River and Stambaugh before moving to Iron Mountain in 1952. Victoria enjoyed many hobbies including baking, cooking, flower gardening, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Iron Mountain, and was a member of the United Methodist Women, UMW, where she served as Upper Peninsula President for one year. Victoria will be forever known for visiting many of the homebound members of the church over the years. She was very active with the Employees' Mutual Benefit Association, EMBA, Women's Auxiliary of the Wisconsin Electric Power Company where she held many offices throughout the years. Victoria was selected as the First Lady of Dickinson County by Beta Sigma Nu Sorority in 1995, in honor of her unselfish gift of time and self to our community. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Carlson, Merriman, Mich., Dixie (Lawrence) Betters, Niagara, Wis.; four grandchildren, Timothy (Melissa) Betters, Australia, Stephen (Christine) Betters, Pinconning, Mich., Vicki Jo (Boyd) Morstad, Niagara, Brenden Carollo, Champaign, Ill.; six great-grandchildren, Christopher Betters, Amanda Betters, Anthony Betters, Stephen Noah Betters, Phillip Morstad, and Rebecca Morstad. Along with her husband and parents, Victoria was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Carlson and Paul Carlson. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 8, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. Debbie Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Felch Cemetery, Felch.
