Victor Hanttula, 83, of Amasa, Mich., passed away Friday, May 8, 2009, at Northstar Health System, Iron River, Mich.
He was born October 4, 1925, in Amasa, Mich., son of the late Emil and Tekla (Walters) Hanttula. Victor married the former Gladys Jacobson on January 10, 1953, in Crystal Falls.
Victor was a Veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army and was a Life Member of the Tufts-Rondon Post No. 2891 V.F.W., Crystal Falls. He retired from the Forest Park School District in 1987, as a custodian and bus driver. Victor was also a meat cutter for Amasa Co-Op, and worked in the woods in his earlier years.
He enjoyed being home with family and friends especially his grandchildren. Victor also enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to camp, but most of all staying home riding his lawnmower and cutting firewood.
Victor is survived by his wife, Gladys Hanttula; three sons, Donald Hanttula, Amasa, Gary (Dawn) Hanttula, Kevin (Mary) Hanttula, both of Crystal Falls; two daughters, Denise (Fred) Hiltonen, Amasa, Coleen (Phillip) Blough, Okinawa, Japan; two sisters, Lillian Bregger, Eva Gill, both of Crystal Falls; seven grandchildren, Jerry, Kim, Rick, Lindsey, Ashley, Jenna, Logan; five great-grandchildren, Aishwarya, Indio, Claire, Lily, Syriana, Kaarina; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Byron Hanttula, 1982; three infant grandchildren; two brothers, John Hanttula, Eino Sturvist; and one sister, Aune Alatalo.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 16, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Amasa. The Eastside Veterans Council will conduct a Pass-In-Review Ceremony Saturday 10:45 a.m. at the church. The memorial service will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Kevin Kaiser will officiate. Burial will be in Hematite Township Cemetery, Amasa, with military honors accorded by the Eastside Veterans Council.
