Obituary

Iron Mountain: Veronica V. Desmarais, age 95, of Iron Mountain, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2005, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford. Veronica, the oldest of 11 children, was born on January 13, 1910, to Rose Ana LeBeau and Aldage Murray, in Spalding, Michigan. She attended Powers Spalding Schools. She met her husband Clement Desmarais at a Hamilton Lakes dance, was courted and then married on October 5, 1929. They farmed in Waucedah and moved to Iron Mountain in 1935. They raised a son Ken and daughter Lois at 517 East "D" Street. She was loved and respected by all who were blessed to have known her. Veronica was a wonderful cook and baker; anyone who was lucky enough to enjoy her meals will tell you so. She also enjoyed gardening, raising vegetables and canning and sharing all with friends and family. Veronica was a talented seamstress and enjoyed ceramics. She would pick up her lady friends and drive them back and forth to ceramics. Veronica dearly loved all her grandchildren and at times of family illnesses and family emergencies she cared for infants and toddlers in her home. The children were blessed by her loving and tender care. Diane can attest to that. Clement, her husband, could not have had a more loving and caring wife. The children, Ken and Lois could not have had a better Mother. She cared more for others than she ever cared about herself – your happiness, your needs and wants. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have been loved by her and known her. Survivors include her son Kenneth Desmarais of Calif., her daughter Lois (Richard) Hughes of Sun Lake, Ariz., two sisters Theresa (Walter) Repobsch of Milwaukee, and Marie (Herman) Pautsch of Fox Lake, Wis., 14 grandchildren 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Clement-1974, she was preceded in death by three brothers; Girard-1979, Vern-1968, and Clayton-1921; and five sisters, Lillian Vickers-1996, Aileen Scarpace, Edith Murray-1990, Rosella Murray – 1930 and Myrtle-1925.
