Amberg – Vernon Frances Shier, 84, of Amberg Wisc., passed away in his log cabin in the woods, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
He was born June, 16, 1940, in Antigo, Wisc., son of Frank and Milne (Fonsen) Shier.
He attended Shiocton Grade School and High School. After school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1957 and served until his honorable discharge in 1958.
He worked for a number of years with the Paper Converting Machine Company. He owned and operated Advance Agriculture with his wife, which they later changed the name to The Seed Store in Green Bay, Wisconsin. After retirement, they moved up to the north woods in Amberg, Wisc. He built the log cabin where he resided with his loving wife until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Carol M. Shier; sons, Byron (Jodi) Shier, Dirk (Marissa) Shier, Todd (Angie) Shier, and Keith (Pam) Shier; brothers, Victor (Barb) Shier, and Billy Shier; sister, Linda Reimer; step-children, Lee Purdy, Kathryn (Lee B.) Purdy, Jeff Purdy, and Brian (Lisa) Purdy; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; and his fur baby companion, Tanner.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his son, Jared Shier; brother, David Shier; sister-in-law, Ruth Shier; brother-in-law, Michael Reimer; and his precious little yorkies, Bear, Jeter, Roc, and Missy.
A Celebration of life will be held later in the Spring.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to his cardiologist Dr. Fuchs, Unity Hospice, and the VA Caregivers for the excellent care provided to Vernon.
