Obituary

Vernon A. Conn, 81, of Florence, Wis., passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Dickinson County HealthCare System, Iron Mountain. Vernon was born on April 20, 1925, in Trousdale, Okla., son of the late Harvey and Wilma (May) Conn. Vernon married Millicent Trudell on March 9, 1946, in Norman, Okla. Vernon grew up in Oklahoma. He served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, in the Pacific Theater, from August, 1942, until he was honorably discharged in February, 1946. While in the service, Vernon earned four medals of honor. After being married, Vernon, along with his wife, Millicent, moved to Florence. He worked as a milk man on the Alpha-Stambaugh Route, Commonwealth Mine, The Odgers Company as an exploratory driller, and lab technician at Hannah Mining Company, Groveland Mine, for 22 years, retiring in 1981, after it closed. In 2002, Vernon received his high school diploma. Vernon was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence, Knights of Columbus, Florence, V.F.W. Post No. 3635, Florence, Young at Heart Senior Club and LCSL No. 5 ship and No. 126. Survivors include, his wife, Millicent; two sons, Rodney (Liz) Conn, Florence, Richard (Jaye) Conn, Sawyer Lake; two brothers, Donald Conn, Nobel, Okla., Richard Conn, Wichita, Kans., one sister, Lotella Davis, Norman, Okla.; four grandchildren, Trinity, Coral Ann, Michael, Christopher; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by one son, Randy; two brothers, Quinton and Wyman Conn; and one sister, Dorothy Trudell. Visitation will be Monday, March 5, 2007, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. VFW/American Legion Post No. 3635 will offer a veterans memorial service at 10:15 AM at the funeral home. Prayers will be offered at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wis.
