Vernard G. Jones, 84, of Florence, Wis., passed away Friday July 13, 2007, at the Iron County Medicare Facility in Crystal Falls, Michigan.
Vernard was born on November 5, 1922, in Kenosha, Wis., son of the late Charles and Ruth (Stichter) Jones. He married Helen Plutchak on August 22, 1942, in Kenosha. Vernard was raised in Kenosha, and went on to serve our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. While in the service Vernard served in the Engineering division from January 1943, until his honorable discharge in November of 1945. Upon returning from the service he worked for Snap On Tools until he retired in 1980. Vernard was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Florence and Bethany Lutheran Church in Kenosha.
He enjoyed many hobbies including, hunting, fishing and serving as the President of Snap On Tools recreation club.
Vernard is survived by, his wife Helen, Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, Powers, Mich.; two sons, Gerald W. (Diane) Jones, Burke, Va., Alan L. (Susan) Florence, Wis.; one daughter, Charlotte A. (Harold) Samuleson, Kenosha; nine grandchildren, Timothy Jones, Heather Jones, Khara Jones, Nicole Jones, Robert Williams, Jeffery Jones, David Jones, Cassandra Lee, Greg Lee; and eleven great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Vernard was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Pfieffer and one granddaughter, Janet Williams.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 17, 2007, from 9:30a.m. until 11:00a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Florence. Funeral services will be Tuesday 11:00a.m. at the church. Rev. James Backus will officiate. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2007, from 12:30p.m. until 1:30p.m. at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park in Kenosha. A time of reflection and prayer will be offered by Pastor, David Pagel at 1:30p.m. Burial will be in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park in Kenosha.
