Vern Maycroft, age 70, of Sagola, Michigan, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2006, at his home. He was born January 20, 1936, in Ravena, Michigan, son of Milford and Juanita (Garvey) Maycroft. On November 1, 1963, in Minot, North Dakota, he married Karon Gustafson. She preceded him in death on January 7, 1995. Vern graduated from Ravena High School and joined IBEW Local Union, then joined the U. S. Army. He and Karon resided in Iron Mountain and later after her death Vern moved to Sagola. He was a member of the Uren Cooper Johnson American Legion Post 50, Amvets, 40 & 8, and the VFW all of Iron Mountain. Vern enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his mother, Juanita; two sons, Richard (Angela) Maycroft, Bobby (Janet) Maycroft; one daughter Laurie (John) Summers, Escanaba; one brother Darwin "Bill" (Darlene) Maycroft, Spread Eagle, Wis.; and 11 grandchildren, Nathan (Twyla), Garrett, Gregory, Evan, Kade, Britney, Emmaly, Chloe, Katie, Sara (Tyler), and John Jr. Besides his father and wife Karon, Vern was preceded in death by a brother Leonard Maycroft and sister-in-law Dianne. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1, 2006, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The American Legion Post 50 will offer a Veterans Service at 4:45 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Pastor Stephen Cowen will officiate.
