Thomas James Calo, 54, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain.
He was born in Iron Mountain on January 1, 1953 son of Carlo "Chuck" Calo and the late Kathleen (Kernan) Calo. Thomas was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1971.
Thomas attended Eastern Michigan University. He worked as a photographer for a short time, for the Dickinson County Road Commission, and also for Giachino Vault Works in Iron Mountain.
He was very athletic and excelled in wrestling, winning the 1971 UP Championship. He enjoyed and did well in water skiing, downhill skiing, and ski jumping. Tom loved music and attended about 35 music conventions with his father throughout the country. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
Thomas is survived by his father, Chuck; one brother Peter Calo, Iron Mountain; two sisters, Paula Calo and husband Jim Nieboer, Appleton, Wis., Carla and husband Larry Bolek, Norway, Mich.; one nephew, Brett Bolek, Marquette, Mich; one uncle, John (Mary) Calo, Kingsford; three aunts, Cleo (Kernan) Johnson, Kingsford, Molly Altobelli and Dorothy Calo, both of Iron Mountain; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 1, 2007, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Tuesday, 11:00 AM at the church. Fr. Dan Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
