Theresa Schuls, 88, of Florence, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Golden Living Center, Florence.
She was born June 3, 1924, in Crystal Falls, Mich., daughter of the late Antone and Nora (McGreal) Schultz. Theresa grew up in Tipler and attended school there. She moved to Chicago in 1940, to work for a doctors family as a nanny. She married Herman Schuls on December 6, 1941, in Evanston, Ill. The next day Pearl Harbor was attacked and her husband was called to duty in South Pacific while she remained in Chicago and worked in a defense plant throughout the war.
Theresa and Herman moved to Kingsford, Mich., in 1944. While living in Kingsford, Theresa worked for Perfex Corp. and later for Kresges and Tilimac. Theresa and her family returned to live and work in Chicago in 1962. In 1980, she and her husband retired and moved to Gaastra, Mich., then in 2002 to Iron Mountain and in 2005, Theresa moved to Florence.
She was very close to her family and had many friends. She loved to decorate her home as well as the home of family and friends. She had a heart of gold and her home was always open to anyone in need.
Theresa was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. She was a great cribbage player and once won a twenty-nine hand and a championship game in 2000, at Camp Batawagama in Iron County. Theresa loved camping and traveled to many destinations with her husband in their favorite RV.
She is survived by two sons, Herman Schuls, Jr., Florence, Tony (Barbara) Schuls, Elgin, Ill.; two sisters, Bethel Clements, Florence, Mabel Clements, Flint, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Tammy Schuls, Roger Hoff, Jeffery Hoff, Christine (Kevin)Hoff, Jason Schuls, Stacy (Zachery) Glover, Lisa (Jeff) Cartee and Craig Schuls; twenty great- grandchildren and several dearly loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, of 60 years in 2002, and one daughter, Carolyn Wolven.
The visitation will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the church. Rev. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery, Quinnesec.
