Obituary

Sylvia D. Erwin, 91, of Fern, Wis., passed away Friday, December 4, 2009, at Aspirus Hospital, Wausau, Wis. Sylvia was born on February 16, 1918 in Milwaukee, Wis., daughter of the late George and Stella (Demetracopoulos) Ivalis. She grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from South Milwaukee High School. Sylvia went on to attend business school in Milwaukee and received her business degree. After college, she worked for the Schick Razor Company as a secretary. Sylvia married Jack Erwin on January 12, 1952, in South Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1992. She was a member of St. Mary Orthodox Church, Iron Mountain and the Order of the Easter Star. Sylvia was always there for her family and friends and was a great confidant to all those she knew. Sylvia was always there to give comfort to those who needed it. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and gardening; her blackberries and asparagus were among the best. Sylvia is survived by two sons, Fred Erwin, Fern, George Erwin, Milwaukee; one daughter, Stella (Brent) Westfall, Three Lakes, Wis.; one sister, Dorothy (Richard) Mezich, Greendale, Wis.; six grandchildren, Jason (Rebecca) Dallagrana, Thadd (Jessie) Westfall, Sawyer Erwin, Fritz Westfall, Skylar Erwin, Sonya Westfall; one great-granddaughter, Anna Westfall; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Jack Erwin; Sylvia was preceded in death by two sisters, Vange McGuire, Francis Velissaris; and one brother, Harry Ivalis. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 8, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. There will be an Order of the Easter Star (OES) memorial service 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Orthodox Church, Iron Mountain. Rev. Mark Hagan will officiate. Burial will be in Commonwealth Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wis.
